Goodbye 2019
Goodbye, but not good riddance. The definition of good riddance: to express relief at being free of a troublesome or wanted person or thing. I don't want to be 'free' of 2019. I want to remember it and cherish it.
Towards the end of 2018, mom made a great facebook post listing all the great things that had happened. To the best she could, she chose to look at the positive things that happened.
At the end of 2018, we didn't think 2019 could be much worse. 2018 had been a hard year for our family. It was a year of sickness, loss, and death. We had no idea what 2019 would bring.
2019 may have been a year of loss, but in the midst of our grief, we found joy.
January -
- Celebrated family Christmas (very late due to one person being out of town).
- Mom got to spend time with some of her closest Huntington friends - a group of women who watched their kids grow up together. I'm so thankful they all took the time to get together.
- Carole (mom's best friend) got to come spend a whole week with mom. Even though mom may not have been herself for most of that week, I know they were both eternally grateful for that time.
- Going to Disney on Ice with Jeremy and the girls - it was incredible!
February - The hardest month to find joy... but it was there
- Spending time with dad, Justin, and Damon - even though planning a memorial service is never fun, the time we spent together and the laughter we shared made the week after mom's death a little easier.
- Top Golf with dad. We decided we needed to get dad out of the house, that we really all needed to get out of the house.
- Celebrating mom's life and seeing the people whose lives she touched. What an incredible honor to be her daughter.
- Finding Mickey Mouse 'bears' at Build-a-bear. Getting one for myself, then getting one for the girls.
March -
- Finishing my first big sewing project - a t-shirt blanket from mom's t-shirts.
- IndyCon - our local board gaming convention that we look forward to every year.
- Travelling to Oklahoma, staying with friends, and learning about life on a farm :)
April -
- Disney World - in Magic Kingdom, on my birthday, with my best friend.
- Paige's first year playing softball
- Finishing my second sewing project - new pajama bottoms for Paige - on mom's sewing machine (which was passed down from my grandma).
May -
- John Crist live - I haven't laughed that hard in a long time
- More softball games with Paige
- Having mom & dad's annual Memorial Day Picnic
June
- Zoo day with Justin
- Indians baseball game with the family
- Zoo camp for Paige!
- The Little Mermaid at Beef & Boards with Paige
- Cincinnati Red game with dad and Paige (and I'm surprised we didn't melt!)
July
- Awesome fireworks show at church (where somehow Kora fell asleep in the middle of all the big booms!)
- Paige learning to ride a bike
- Jeremy and I buying bikes
- Getting a trailer for Kora to take family bike rides
- Going on our first family bike ride and getting ice cream in Broad Ripple
- More zoo days
- Summer pool time!
- Finishing the month by accomplishing my goal of running or walking at least 1 mile/day
August
- GENCON!!! Our favorite time of year - 'The best 4 days in gaming'
- First day of school - 3rd Grade (high ability) for Paige and Kora starting at a new preschool (which is one of the best decisions we've made in a long time)
- Shipshewana with my two besties
- Colts 5K with friends
- Paige's 8th birthday party - Villains/Descendants
September
- Travelling to Oklahoma with dad.
- Kora's 4th birthday party - Unicorns!
- Women's retreat
- Pioneer Festival
October
- Going to Seattle to visit Justin & Melissa
- Running the Wonder Woman 10K
- Colts 'Crucial Catch' game
- Seeing this picture of dad during his trip to Disney with Justin & Solomon
- ZooBoo
- Trunk or Treat at church
- Halloween (freezing cold!)
November
- Dad's birthday
- So You Think You Can Dance live Tour
- Making the decision to go back to school
- Getting a new office set up
- Frozen 2 with the girls
December
- Breakfast with Santa at Paige's school
- Newsies
- Playing in the snow
- Christmas
- Christmas at the zoo
- Packing for Disney!!!
So for now I say goodbye to 2019. A year that has forever changed my life. I look forward to 2020 and the adventures it will bring. I mean, what better way to start 2020 than a trip to Disney World with my whole family 😀
